Our editorial policy for Penetrex Balm pages

Every page on this site follows the same working rules: start from the label, use plain English, keep medical language out, and show our rating and customer reviews in the open.

How does the team write a page?

We write every page from the label outwards: the carton and tube come first, plain English comes second, and everyday Kenyan life gives the examples.

Label first

The product carton is our primary source. The ingredient names on our ingredients page follow the list printed on the carton, and the five steps on the how-to-use page follow the method of use supplied with the product. Where the label gives no figure, such as an ingredient amount, we do not make one up. We simply point you to the carton.

Published ingredient list

We publish the full list, not just the headline ingredients. Each of the six key ingredients, menthol, methyl salicylate, eucalyptus, safflower, Ligusticum chuanxiong and lavender, has its own page, and the rest of the base is explained group by group.

Plain language

We aim for short sentences, active verbs and everyday words. A Latin name appears once, followed by what it means for a balm: a cool touch, a gentle warmth, a herbal scent or a smooth texture. We write “you” because the page is for you.

Everyday context

Our examples come from daily life in Kenya, such as the matatu seat, the shamba evening, the laptop at 9 pm and the long walk home. Habits like these are the reason people look for a balm in the first place, so we write about them.

What words does the site avoid?

Penetrex Balm is a balm for external use, so we describe it the way a balm is described: by scent, texture, format and daily use.

  • No medical claims. We do not describe the balm as a medicine, and we do not describe it as a substitute for anything a doctor has advised.
  • No named endorsers. Nobody is quoted as a spokesperson, and no public figures appear. The site speaks as an editorial team, and customers speak in the review cards.
  • No invented numbers. No ingredient amounts, studies, certificates or percentages appear unless they are printed on the pack.
  • No pressure. There are no countdown clocks and no stock counters. The price is KES 5,990, and you can decline the order on the confirmation call.

Where a precaution matters, such as a patch test or care around the eyes, it appears on the safety page and in the places where it naturally belongs. The category disclaimer sits at the bottom of every page and in full on the disclaimer page.

How is the editorial rating made?

Five criteria, one shared scale of 5.

Editorial rating

4.7/5

Our rating of Penetrex Balm

Format and ease of use4.8/5
Scent and skin feel4.7/5
Ingredient list4.6/5
Day-to-day fit4.8/5
Ordering and delivery process4.6/5

The editorial rating is ours. It is not an average of customer scores, and we always label it as an editorial rating. Criteria:

  • Format and ease of use. The 50 g tube, the thin-layer method, how neat it is to apply and how easily it travels.
  • Scent and skin feel. The herbal eucalyptus and lavender scent, the cool first touch and the gentle warmth that follows.
  • Ingredient list. A full list printed on the carton and explained on this site, with plant oils and extracts alongside menthol and methyl salicylate.
  • Day-to-day fit. How naturally the balm slots into a morning or evening, once or twice a day.
  • Ordering and delivery process. A short form, a confirmation call, delivery to your area and payment on delivery.

Each criterion is scored from 1 to 5, and the total is the overall editorial rating. A figure that is not printed on the pack is simply left out of the page and does not change the score.

How are customer reviews shown?

Customer reviews are separate from our editorial rating. The reviews page holds 48 customer reviews with an average of 4.7 out of 5, and every card is labelled “Customer review”.

On other pages, we show a selection of the reviews so the page stays quick to read, and a link leads to all customer reviews. Reviews come from follow-up conversations after delivery. They focus on what matters in daily use: scent, format, ease of use and the ordering experience.

Customer comments stay short and about everyday experience: scent, format, use and ordering.

How do we keep pages up to date?

We review the site when the price, the ordering steps or the delivery areas change, and whenever a reader points out something that no longer matches the label.

The price you see is the current price. The price page and the delivery page are the first ones we check when the offer changes.

How do I send a correction?

Write to hello@penetrex.co.ke. Please include:

  • the address of the page,
  • the sentence or figure you want us to look at,
  • what you believe it should say, and why, if you can tell us.

We compare your note with the carton, update the page if it needs it. You do not need to give a reason, and you do not need to be a customer.

More about who we are: about the team. Questions that are not corrections can go through the contact page.

Editorial policy: common questions

How does Penetrex Balm Kenya write its pages?

Label first. We start from the carton and tube, which give the ingredient list, the pack size and the method of use, and we put those facts into plain English with everyday Kenyan context. Pages are written in the name of the editorial team, without named individuals.

What does the editorial rating of 4.7/5 mean?

It is our own editorial score for the way Penetrex Balm fits everyday life, built from five criteria that each use the same /5 scale. It is separate from the customer rating of 4.7 out of 5, which comes from the 48 customer reviews on the reviews page.

Why are only some customer reviews shown on a page?

Pages show a short selection so they stay quick to read, together with a link to the full set on the reviews page. The selection is automatic and the cards stay short and about everyday use.

How do I send a correction?

Write to hello@penetrex.co.ke with the page address and what you noticed. We check it against the label and update the page.
